KCR promises supply of raw material, power on subsidy

Warangal: Good news at last for hundreds of workers of the Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT) unit at Kamalapur village in Mangapet mandal of the district.

Stating that the company would soon resume its operations, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari and MP A Sitaram Naik told presspersons in Hanamkonda on Sunday that the BILT management has decided to revive pulp production shortly.

The management has taken the decision following an assurance by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to provide raw material and power on subsidy and to ensure regular coal supply from the SCCL as requested by the company.

Continued from P1 In all, the state government would pay Rs 210 crore towards subsidy for a period of seven years. Of the Rs 30 crore subsidy, Rs 21 crore goes towards the supply of wood, raw material for the production of rayon grade and paper grade wood pulp and Rs 9 crore towards power.

A GO in this connection would be issued on Monday and an agreement would be signed with the factory management, Srihari said. The CM has taken the decision to bear the subsidy costs for the benefit of about 7,750 employees and to provide livelihood to thousands of tribals living in the surrounding villages, the Dy CM said.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has also agreed to supply wood produced in his state on subsidy to the factory in the interest of employees. “We thank both the CMs for their initiative to help the workers,” Srihari added. The Avantha Group, which owns the BILT established in 1977, approached the government to permanently close the factory by January 21, 2015. Since then, the employees were on relay hunger strike demanding reopening of the factory.

The Kamalapur unit was shut down earlier during 1985-87 for 18 months and later closed for six months in 2009 following global economic crisis. Meanwhile, celebrations erupted at Kamalapur where the Workers Joint Action Committee leaders P Venkat Reddy, Ch Chokka Rao, SK Qurban Ali and others thanked the CM for his initiative.
