Hyderabad: The ongoing Kukatpally Nala works at Hussain Sagar will be completed by February end, according to the officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (HMWS&SB).

Minister of IT and Panchayat Raj K T Rama Rao on Wednesday inspected the works and instructed the authorities concerned to finish them on time. Kukatapally Nala, one of the five Nalas, brings nearly 100 million litres of water (mld) of industrial water wastes from Jeedimetla every day.

Water Board in collaboration with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) under Hussain Sagar Lake Improvement Project (HCIP) initiated the Nala diversion project at the cost of Rs 58 crore in four different packages.

According to the plan, a ring pipeline is to be connected to drain-in point of Kukatapally Nala near Necklace Road. This will prevent the waste going into Hussian Sagar Lake. With the completion of this ring pipeline, 570 mld of hazardous waste water can be diverted from flowing into the lake.

Till now, the pipeline works of 2 km were completed out of 2.8 km. The water works official said they would complete the balance 0.8 km pipeline work in next two months. “Due to power cables, water supply trunk mains and traffic issues, the work was moving at a slower pace,” he said.
