Medaram (Warangal): Efforts were being made to conduct the historic Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Jatara in a grand manner, said Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari. He said unlike the previous governments, the Telangana government has begun making arrangements for the Jatara six months before the event commences.

The government has taken the Jatara in a prestigious manner and that was why Rs 172 crore allocated for the arrangements. The Deputy CM, along with Tribal Welfare and Tourism Minister A Chandulal and senior district officials, inspected the ongoing works and reviewed the arrangements at Medaram on Wednesday.

Since this Jatara was the first one in the newly created Telangana, the government accorded great importance to the event, he said. It was expected that more than one crore devotees would attend the Jatara and the arrangements were being made keeping in mind the devotees’ rush and their needs.

Main focus would be made on ensuring smooth flow of traffic and pilgrims in and out Medaram, Srihari explained. The earlier governments have never cared to make the arrangements for the Jatara in a proper way but the TRS government was making all out efforts to make the Jatara a memorable event for the devotees.

The officials of all the concerned departments were directed to strictly monitor the quality of works, Srihari added. Deputy CM Srihari and Minister Chandulal laid foundation stones for various developmental works like road widening and repairs, construction of dormitories and shopping complex at Medaram and in surrounding places on the day.

The TSRTC has planned to operate nearly 4,000 buses this time for the Jatara. Zilla Parishad Chairperson G Padma, MLA Ch Dharma Reddy, District Collector V Karuna, Rural Superintendent of Police Ambar Kishor Jha, Irrigation department Superintendent Engineer V Padma Rao and others were present.

Meanwhile, the flow of devotees has already begun at Medaram. Those who intend to avoid rush during Jatara time were visiting the place to offer their prayers and fulfill their vows. The devotees were in large numbers mainly on Wednesday, Thursdays and Sundays, informed Oorattam MPTC B Raju.
