Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Jogu Ramanna hints that the income limit for securing benefit may be increased from `6 lakh yearly to `12 lakh annually

New Delhi: The TRS government would never harm the interests of the students belonging to the Backward Classes despite exclusion of creamy layer as was directed by the Supreme Court in awarding scholarships, etc, said Jogu Ramanna, Minister for Backward Classes Welfare and MPs B Narsaiah Goud and Nagesh here on Monday.

Allaying the fears of BC students, they said presently the State government had fixed the income limit at Rs 6 lakh annually and it was also considering the suggestion to raise it to Rs 12 lakhs. Whatever might be the limit, majority of the BC students would benefit and there should be no doubt regarding this, they said.

A recent survey ordered by the State government had established that the BCs account ted for 50 per cent of the population. Several new programmes and initiatives of the Telangana government gave impetus for the advancement of BCS, he said.

Earlier, the Minister along with the MPs met the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaavar Chand Gehlot and urged him to sanction sufficient number of hostels for OBC boys and girls and Rs.4.14 crore for according pre-metric scholarships to OBC students.
