Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand is a man on a mission. He is taking cue from the Chief Minister’s directive to ensure that the entire jurisdiction is free of the menace of vices like gambling, satta among others.

Although quite satisfied with the manner the department has been going about the job, Anand is seething with rage at some personnel whom he accuses of negligence of duty. The anger comes from the fact that the raids and subsequent arrests are being carried out by the personnel under the Special Operations Team and not by the regular field personnel, including several SIs, Station House Officers (Inspectors) and Assistant Commissioners of Police in the Commissionerate. Anand has issued memos to a string of officials on charges of negligence of day-to-day duty that includes curbing gambling and other illegal activities in their respective jurisdictions.

Statistically speaking, while 189 raids were conducted by Cyberabad police in 2014 and 1,489 persons were arrested, this year as of today, as many as 233 places were raided and 1,595 persons were arrested. All these by the Special Operations Team!

Noticing the laxity, the Cyberabad Commissioner has charged them with memos, every time, when racket is busted by SOT personnel.Commissioner Anand said “the drastic step was inevitable. Memos have been issued to all errant officials as a disciplinary action to work as a future deterrent. Some ACPs have also been charged with memos when the rackets were busted repeatedly under their jurisdiction, even as they remained oblivious of the nefarious activities right under their nose.”
