Mahbubnagar to get 3 new dialysis centres to come up at Nagarkurnool, Gadwal and Narayanpet.

Hyderabad: The State health department in the district is contemplating to set up three new dialysis centres in Mahbubnagar on Private Public Partnership mode, under the Arogyasri scheme, to serve the poor kidney patients in the district.

As already a kidney centre is existing at the district headquarter, the State health department is planning to set up three new dialysis centres at Nagarkurnool, Gadwal and Narayanpet revenue divisions to serve the kidney patients.
According to sources from district health department, rural poor living in various villages in the above said revenue divisions are highly prone to various kidney ailments and were going to faraway places like Kurnool, Hyderabad, Bangalore for better treatment and spending lakhs of rupees in private hospitals, which is further pushing them into poverty.
“Particularly in our region there are lots of people who are suffering from kidney ailments. I have sold my one acre land for kidney treatment,” said Narasimha, a farmer from Korlakunta village of Kollapur Taluka in the district.
He cited growing menace of alcohol addiction and impure, saline water as main reasons. “Many labourers in our village have reported of having stones in their kidneys,” he said.
Having learnt about the vows of people in these rural pockets, the State health department headed by Health Minister Dr C Laxma Reddy had recently announced setting up of three new dialysis centres at the said places. Already one dialysis centre is functioning at Mahabubnagar town.
If these dialysis centers are set up, the rural population in the far away areas like Kollapur, Achampet, Ambrabad, Gadwal, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthi, Narayanpet etc suffering various kidney ailments will be benefited.
However, some of the rich and having medium financial support are able to get themselves cured in leading hospitals in big cities. But the poor who are reeling under poverty are just leading a miserable life as they are not able to afford the costly treatments like dialysis, he felt.
“We are planning to provide kidney dialysis services free of cost to the poor people. As part of this, our government is taking up the project under Arogyasri health scheme and we are very soon calling for tenders to set up the dialysis centres at Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthi and Gadwal divisions. Under this scheme, the State government will spend about Rs 1,250 per each patient per one session of dialysis,” informed the Health Minister.
Overall, the initiative to provide high end tertiary healthcare treatment to the kidney and diabetes patients within their own nearby towns is seen as a New Year gift to the poor patients in the rural areas.
