Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Wednesday won four seats and the Congress two in the elections to the six seats of Telangana Legislative Council from local bodies constituency.

The TRS won two seats in Ranga Reddy and one each in Khammam and Mahbubnagar and the Congress won one seat each in Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar.

The TRS had already won six seats unanimously in Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warangal and Medak districts.

With this, the strength of TRS in the 40-member House has gone up to 29 while Congress has eight, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen two and BJP 1. The TRS winners included Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy's brother Narender Reddy who won with a majority of 257 votes and Shambhipur Raju with a majority of 255 from Ranga Reddy.

Educationist Kasireddy Narayan Reddy in Mahbubnagar won by a majority of 445 votes while in Khammam sitting MLC Balasani Laxminarayana won with a majority of 31 votes. In Khammam, CPI candidate P Nageshwar Rao, who was supported by Congress and TDP, got 285 votes. The YSRCP candidate polled 102 votes. Political circles here say that the contest by YSRCP had split the votes of the Left party candidate.

The Congress winners comprised former MP of Bhongir Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy who won by 193 votes over TRS candidate T Chinnappa Reddy. Rajagopal Reddy's brother and Nalgonda MLA K Venkat Reddy had recently declared that he would quit politics if his brother did not win and dared Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to do the same in the event of the TRS losing.

The contest in the four districts of Khammam, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar and Ranga Reddy was bitter with the TRS and the Congress organising camps for the electorate in other States to keep their flock together. The TDP candidate in Mahbubnagar K Dayakar Reddy has threatened to move the court alleging irregularities in counting of votes.

The results threw up a surprise for the TRS in Mahbubnagar as its sitting MLC S Jagadeeshwar Reddy was defeated. TDP candidate K Dayakar Reddy was said to have fielded an independent, one of his supporters, who also went by the name Jagadeeshwar Reddy to confuse the voters.

The TDP proved to be the biggest loser as its candidates failed to win. In RR district, TDP candidate polled only 96 votes while Dayakar Reddy in Mahbubnagar polled 152 votes.
