Telangana Govt urged to focus on education to improve HDI

Hyderabad: Eminent educationist and former MLC Chukka Ramaiah urged the government to focus on education and health to improve Human Development Index.

Speaking after releasing the diary of Telangana State United Teachers’ Federation (TSUTF) at TSUTF office here on Friday, he urged the teachers to make strenuous efforts to improve standards of education in government schools.

Ramaiah suggested the members of TSUTF to workout proposals as to how to improve teaching standards in the schools. “TSUTF has prominent teachers. It has to use services of members to improve standards in the schools,” he opined. He requested the government to involve teacher associations not just in service matters but also in making policies. “The government should not view teachers as employee associations but as the professionals.

Former MLC Prof. K Nageshwar said out of 188 countries, India was ranked 130 in terms of HDI. According to the UN Development programme, the educational inequalities were the primary reason for India’s backwardness in human development, he added.

He urged the central government to remove educational inequalities in at least 2016. Nageshwar demanded Telangana government to come up with the concrete plan to implement the much-hyped KG to PG from the next academic year.

School Teachers’ Federation of India, vice-president, N Narayana urged the central government to make a progressive new national education policy as it is being made after 30 years. He warned the government not include religious content in the curriculum. TSUTF President A Narsi Reddy, TSUTF, General Secretary, Chava Ravi and among others participated in the programme.
