This year, from Khariff crop season, the farm sector in Telangana will be getting nine hour electricity supply every day instead of seven hours. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday instructed officials to implement the measures of supplying nine hour electricity to farmers along with uninterrupted power to other sectors.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the 2014 elections had promised to increase the duration of power supply and KCR reviewed the power supply in the state with top officials on Friday.
According to the statement from the Chief Minister's office, the state has power generation capacity of 4,445 Megawatt at present and a goal of seeking 4,600 MW more by the year end has been set. While the 600 MW unit of Bhoopalapally plant will be commissioned on January 5, another 1,000 MW from Chhattisgarh will be available by the end of the year and another 1,200 MW will be available from Singareni plant by April.
The Chief Minister has set an ultimate goal for the officials to focus on to generate 25,000 MW by 2018.
