A two judge bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising of Acting Chief Justice D B Bhosale and Justice S V Bhatt on Tuesday directed the Election Commission of India to respond by Thursday to the issue of 7.9 lakh voters who were declared as duplicate voters in GHMC area. The bench made the order in a writ plea filed by Mahesh Goud. 

A two judge bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising of Acting Chief Justice D B Bhosale and Justice S V Bhatt on Tuesday directed the Election Commission of India to respond by Thursday to the issue of 7.9 lakh voters who were declared as duplicate voters in GHMC area. The bench made the order in a writ plea filed by Mahesh Goud.

The petitioner pointed out that according to the Election Commission of India there are 7.9 lakh duplicate voters in GHMC area. The communication said the names are identified and they will be deleted after the elections to the GHMC. The petitioner said that GHMC polls will be held as per the voters list finalised by Election Commission of India.

Now the ECI had given green signal for the GHMC polls with nearly eight lakhs bogus voters. The bench expressed surprise at the statement made in the communication and wanted the commission to inform the court about its plan of action. The petitioner sought a direction to the ECI to delete these voters and then publish final list which would be the basis for the GHMC polls. The case will be listed on Thursday
