The illegal mining of gravel in many parts of Nizamabad district was taken serious note of by Lokayukta Justice B Subhashan Reddy on Tuesday. He ordered immediate halt to all such operations that were being carried out without the mandatory permissions from Environmental Ministry.

He pointed out the Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal had categorically stated that the enviromental clearances are a must before undertaking such mining.
