Hyderabad: Telangana government appears to be oblivious to the land possessed by it in the districts. State Revenue Department does not have proper records pertaining to the extent of vacant lands owned and the details of the lands encroached upon.

Revenue officials said that the records revealed that nearly 12 lakh hectares to 15 lakh hectares of land should be in the possession of the government. But, according to the Stamps and Registration Department, the ownership pattas of these lands were in the name of private people.

The sources said that the Revenue Department has documents only in respect of 5 lakh hectares to 7 lakh hectares of land. Documents for the remaining government land were ‘missing’.
