Karimnagar: Unable to bear the alleged torture by the police, four youth attempted suicide by consuming pesticides. This bizarre incident took place in Chowchilla Cheruvu Palli of Koheda mandal on Thursday.

According to the police, residents of Nawabpet village of Chigurumamidi mandal, Boini Suresh, Boini Ramesh, Konkati Srujan and Gatika Sagar went to Chowchilla Cheruvu Palli and tried to end their lives.

The alert locals rushed them to Husnabad area hospital from where they were shifted to district headquarters hospital. The condition of three persons was said to be serious.

According to the sources, the youth took the drastic step as they have been harassed for the past one week by Rajagopalpet police of Medak district wherein a case was registered against them.

Parents of Shivaranjani, who allegedly fled with her lover Shankar, lodged a complaint against the four for helping their friend Shankar in eloping with their daughter.

Both Shankar and Shivaranjani, residents of Nawabpet, fell in love sometime ago. The girl recently went to her grandmother’s village, Akkannapalli of Nanganur mandal of Medak district and went missing since one week. At the same time, Shankar also disappeared from Nawabpet.

Suspecting that Shankar took away their daughter with the help of his friends, the girl’s parents lodged a complaint with Rajagopalpet police station one week ago. Since then the police have been interrogating the youth at the police station.

The four youth received a call from the cops on Thursday also. Unable to tolerate the police torture, they reportedly consumed pesticides to end their lives.

The parents of the victims alleged that it was not proper on the part of the police to torture innocent youth to shield themselves from their failure in finding out the whereabouts of the runaway persons. They wanted the police higher officials to take serious action against the cops, responsible for the incident.
