Nizamabad: To prevent atrocities and social discrimination against the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, the Police and Revenue departments should strictly implement the SCs and STs Atrocities Act and register an FIR within 24 hours on those who perpetrated them, said Nizamabad District Collector Yogita Rana here on Friday.

Addressing a review meeting of the District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at the Collectorate, Rana said that while 87 cases were registered last year, 62 cases were still under judicial enquiry and 25 cases were under investigation in Nizamabad district. She said that in these cases, the State government sanctioned Rs 15, 000 as compensation to 50 families in 2014 and 16 families in 2015.
