Warangal: As the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao is busy in brightening TRS’ poll prospects in Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) elections, opposition parties are seriously engaged to fight against the proposed ward-wise reservations.

The opposition parties like Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress are disputing the number of seats reserved for SC/ST/BCs and women. The parties’ leaders are of the opinion that the reservations quota prepared by the officials is faulty.

Both the leaders of BJP and Congress are now planning to knock the doors of the court challenging the reservations proposed by the GWMC officials. The corporation officials have colluded with the ruling party and the reservation of wards is such way that it benefits the TRS, they alleged.

“The rule of reservation is not followed in a proper manner and norms are violated to benefit the ruling party. We would soon go to the High Court challenging and seeking revision of the reservation of wards,” said a senior BJP leader and former MLA M Dharma Rao.

He told The Hans India here on Thursday, the officials haven’t taken factors like total population, ratio of voters of caste ratio and women into consideration. ‘We have submitted memorandums to the Municipal Commissioner and staged protests but there are none to listen,’ he added.

The same is the opinion of the former minister, Baswaraju Saraiah of Congress. The State government must take up re-survey of division-wise reservation under GWMC limits. The officials acted under the pressure from the ruling party in recommending division-wise reservation. For instance, a ward where the population of BCs is more is allocated to SCs and where the SCs are more it is allocated to BCs. The corporation officials are not even ready to provide a copy of the reservation proposals to the opposition parties, he complained.

It might be recalled that on January 4, 2015, a delegation of the district Congress leaders met the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration, Dana Kishore and Municipal Administration Principal Secretary MG Gopal to present their case.

According to the Municipal Corporation officials, the reservation proposal has been sent to the State government for approval in the last week of December 2015. The government is yet to finalise it and issue a GO.

It has to be recalled that the State government has on December 19, 2015 issued the GO 200 reserving seats to SC/ST/BCs and women. Of the total 58 wards, 29 are allocated to women and 29 are general seats. Coming to caste-wise reservation, 10 wards are reserved for BCs, five to SCs and one to STs.
