Hyderabad: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will bring all non-BJP governments on a single platform to mount pressure on the Centre for transfer of funds to the states. Disclosing this at the media conference here, the CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said,

“If the CPI (M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) comes to power in Kerala, it will bring together all the non-BJP governments in the country to mount pressure on the Centre to ensure that funds are transferred to the states.”

After the BJP-led NDA replaced the Planning Commission with the NITI Aayog, there was no clarity on the funds being shared with the states. Earlier, “important issues like sharing of funds and the like were used to be discussed in National Development Council meeting and Planning Commission,” he said.

“But, what the Centre had done in the name of cooperative federalism is transferring funds that are meant for the Centre sponsored schemes only,” he said.

Earlier, during the tenure of former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao, conventions were held in Vijayawada, Kolkata and Srinagar to discuss the issues dealt by the Sarkaria Commission on Centre-State relations, and pressure was mounted on the then government at the Centre.

A similar exercise was now needed and the party would take up the issue. He pointed out that Rs 10,000 crore being earned by enhanced excise duty on crude oil was going to the Centre’s kitty.

And, as of now there was no way that it could be shared with the States and the CPI (M) would take up such issues, he added.
