Ministers Chandulal and Jupally Krishna Rao launch a ferry service and inaugurate Haritha Hotels in the exotic locale of the backward district of Mahbubnagar
Mahabubnagar: Kollapur region in Mahabubnagar has got a shot in the arm on Tuesday as Tourism Minister Azmeera Chandulal and Major Industries Minister Jupally Krishna Rao launched a ferryboat service between Somashila and Srisailam along the Krishna river that winds down through the valleys of the mountainous region. Both the Ministers inaugurated Haritha Hotels and launched the ferryboat aiming to develop tourism in the region.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Chandulal said the region of Kollapur had been selected under the Central government tourism scheme ‘Swadeshi Bharat Sandarshan’ and it had been taken up for development with a cost of Rs 23 crores. “The region is an apt destination for eco-tourism in the State.
The 150-kilometer water stretch through Alampur, Somashila, Achampet and Srisaialm can be developed as tourism circle where tourists can enjoy the nature’s beauty,” said the Minister. The region between Somashila has a wide stretch of waterway with a steady pace between the hilly regions. The 150 kilometer stretch from Somashila to Srisailam is an apt tourism river stretch where Krishna water flows downstream, providing safe paths for boat travel for tourists and pilgrims.
The Telangana Tourism Development Corporation has already spent Rs 70 lakh for the Haritha Hotels and construction of cottages in Srisailam and Somashila region. Similarly Rs 90 lakh has been spent for the newly launched ferry boat to facilitate tourists from Somashila to various pilgrim centres including the Srisailam Jetprolu temple, Haragopala Swamy temple, Singotam temple and Akkammadevi Guhalu all surrounding the Kollapur region. “We are also having plans to develop the region in a big way in the future.
The wide stretch of water body is suitable for water sports. We are also planning to develop a tourism circle attaching the major towns like Alampur, Achampet and Singotam,” informed the Minister. The major tourism spots at Kollpur are the Kings Palace, Singotam (Singapattanam) reservoir and Lakshminarasimha Swami temple, where thousands of pilgrims come during its annual festival.
The Machala Swamy temple at Kollapur was originally built by the Rajas of Jetprole during the 16th century A D on the left bank of River Krishna at Manchalakatta. The architecture of the temple is exceedingly beautiful. Apart from these, the other temples at Jetapolu and Alampur are famous among the pilgrims from various States. With the government’s new initiative to develop this region into a tourism hub, Mahbubnagar will earn a place in the tourism sector of the country.
