Warangal: The students of Kakatiya University JAC demanded that the BJP led NDA government be held responsibility for the death of Dalit PhD scholar Vemula Rohith at University of Hyderabad. Students stayed away from classes in KU and protest rally was taken out from the campus to SDLCE centre. The students staged a road blockade on busy Warangal-Karimnagar road.

Under the banner of KUJAC the students belonging to TRSV, BSF, NSUI, TGVP, BSP, MVV, TMVS and other organisations burnt the effigy of central government describing the students’ death as murder by BJP government.

The protestors demanded serious against the Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya, the University Vice- Chancellor Prof P Appa Rao, BJP MLC N Ramachandra Rao and ABVP leaders at UoH for their alleged involvement in the death of the Dalit student.

The JAC leaders Jorika Ramesh, B Prashant, K Rajender, A Karthik and others stated that BJP, RSS and ABVP activists have been spreading hatred against the students who were following BR Ambedkar’s ideology. The JAC leader Ramesh demanded immediate withdrawal of suspension imposed on four other students, removal of Dattatreya from the Cabinet and the VC from his post.

In protest to the suicide by Rohit Vemula, a PhD student in Hyderabad Central University (UoH), several students’ organisation in Mahbubnagar enforced shut-down and burnt effigies in all mandal headquarters in the district.

All the schools and colleges in the district remained shut and the students protested by taking to roads at all the mandal headquarters. According to Jagan, president of Kula Vivaksha Porata Samithi (KVPS), it was a shame to know that reputed universities like Hyderabad Central University were also subjecting the students to cast discrimination. “Many students from SC/ST and BC are being harassed by professors and university authorities in the name .
