Warangal: The members of KU Telangana Vidyarthi Nirudyoga (KUTVN) JAC have strongly opposed the regularisation of junior lecturers and degree college lecturers working on contract basis.

The JAC members have on Friday took out a protest rally at Kakatiya University and staged dharna at the SDLCE centre. They burnt an effigy of the State government. The JAC leaders demanded the State government that they should withdraw their decision to regularise the services of contract lecturers.

Speaking on the occasion, JAC chairman M Sudhakar and Telangana Private College Lecturers Association leader S Srinivas Reddy alleged that with the government’s decision, the job prospects of six lakh students and unemployed youth and three lakh private lecturers were affected.

Sudhakar said that if the government regularises the services of 3,700 contract lecturers, it could make the students and unemployed youth jobless for the next three decades.

Moreover, the process would be against the constitutional provision which makes the implementation of the rule of reservation mandatory in filling up the government jobs, they said.

Several judgements delivered by courts in the states of Karnataka, Odisha, Haryana and Gujarat have opposed the regularisation of gazetted posts. Hence the State government should immediately issue job notification for filling up the posts of junior lecturers and Degree College lecturers through the Telangana State Public Service Commission.

If the government failed to do so, serious agitations would be staged across the State, they warned. Around 500 students and unemployed youth took part in the protest.
