Warangal: Nizamabad MP K Kavitha has called upon the women employees to draw inspiration from Kakatiya ruler Rani Rudrama Devi and tribal warriors Sammakka and Saralamma to fight for their rights.

This, she said speaking after inaugurating the two-day Fifth Women’s National Convention organised under aegis of All India State Government Employees Federation (AISGEF) and Telangana Non-Gazetted Officers’ (TNGOs) Association at NIT Warangal in Kazipet on Saturday.

The MP, who heads cultural organisation Telangana Jagruthi, stressed on the need to educate the girl child in order to achieve empowerment of women. The time has come to create awareness among the public girls education, she stated.

Telangana Jagruthi has been conducting awareness programmes to educate girls. As the majority of girls and women were not allowed to continue their studies only 16 percent of employees in the country were women, Kavitha said.

Referring to statehood movement, the MP said the State government employees have played a key role in the fight for separate Telangana. The government was grateful to the employees and was making efforts for their welfare.

The enhancement of salaries of the employees was part of it. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was dedicated to run employee-friendly government as he feels that the employees serve as medium between the government and public, she said.

Kavitha has assured the women employees that she would raise the issue of tax exemption to women employees in parliament. Pressure would be built on the centre to increase tax exemption limit for women employees to Rs 6 lakh per annum.

Promising to fight for the rights of Asha workers, she wanted the Centre to look into their demands. As Telangana government regularised the services of contract employees, the Centre should also take steps in that direction concerning Asha workers, she suggested.

Addressing the gathering, Telangana government Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma said Telangana government was according great importance to women employees. For the first time in the country 33 percent reservation was provided to women in armed police wing. Out of the ten districts in the State, six districts have women as district collectors, he added.

Earlier a massive rally was taken out from Telangana Keerthi Stupam in Hanamkonda to the NIT.

AISGEF national president R Muthusundaram, TNGOs honorary president G Deviprasada Rao, state president K Ravinder Reddy, its women wing president P Vijaya Laxmi, Employees JAC chairman P Subba Rao , MP G Sudha Rani and others were present.

‘TRS will win GHMC elections’
The TRS would emerge victorious in GHMC elections as it had won Warangal parliament bye-election, asserted the party MP K Kavitha.

Speaking to press persons in Hanamkonda on Saturday she said the people in the state capital were aware of the developmental activities being taken up by the state government across the state and in Hyderabad. Hence they would support the TRS in the election.

Referring to the arrangements for Medaram Sammakka Sarakka Jatara she said works were expected to be completed 15 days ahead of the event unlike the past. State government ensured sufficient funds as it taken jatara prestigiously and works were on full pace. The state government would invite union minister Joel Oram to attend the event. The centre would be asked to accord national festival to the tribal fair Kavitha said. She refused to comment on the recent mysterious death of two tribal girls studying at Muduchekkalapally tribal residential school.
