Khammam: Congress Deputy Floor Leader in the Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy charged the TRS government with inflating the costs of several irrigation projects to benefit the contractors.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he demanded that the government must appoint a sitting High Court judge to probe into the estimates of the irrigation projects.

“The project costs were escalated to benefit the contractors,” Reddy alleged, stating that he would resign from politics if his charges were proved wrong. He also alleged that contractors were ruling the roost in TRS government.

He demanded the government to continue the names of Indira Sagar and Rajiv Sagar projects for the re-designed irrigation projects of Dummugudem.

Referring to the upcoming Food Park Project at Buggapadu near Sathupalli, Reddy criticised the TRS government for claiming credit for the project which was sanctioned by the erstwhile Congress government.

He questioned why the government was not initiating action against the culprits though a survey conducted by the administration had revealed that seven-and-a-half acre land was encroached in the Lakaram tank.

Stressing the need for a special budget for farming sector, Reddy demanded the government to change the design of the Polavaram project to save the Dakshina Ayodhya Bhadrachalam, the abode of Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy temple, from inundating.

DCC president Aitham Satyam, TPCC official spokesperson K Ranga Rao, Youth Congress state secretary Ramisetty Manohar Naidu, V Chandrasekhar, K Nagaraju and T Satyam were among others present.
