Karimnagar: Based on High Court orders, Deputy Labour Commissioner A Gandhi on Friday issued notices to the owners of about 125 brick units, asking them to pay wages to migrant labourers through bank accounts besides providing basic facilities at work place.

Dealing with a public interest litigation that basic facilities were denied to migrant labourers in brick manufacturing units in the district, High Court issued interim orders on January 25, 2016.

In its orders, the court asked the owners of brick units to provide minimum wages and basic facilities guaranteed in Inter-State Migration Act and the wages should be paid through bank accounts.

The labour department officials warned that cases would be registered against brick units’ owners and file charge sheet in the court if they failed to do so.
