Wardhannapet (Warangal): Following the abuse and assault of a woman by her relatives on Monday at Donga Chintha (DC) Thanda in the mandal the local police have set up a picket at the hamlet. At a panchayat, the victim, B Anitha, was beaten up and burnt and her clothes were torn up by the relatives of Swaroopa, the first wife of Bhanoth Ravi who secretly married Anitha some time back.

In this connection, Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu has on Tuesday visited the thanda to take stock of the situation and interacted with the residents. Cautioning them against taking the law into their hands in case of any dispute, he told them to approach the police to resolve their disputes.

Later, speaking to the media, Sudheer Babu said that the Wardhannapet police has decided to adopt the thanda and a library would soon be opened at the hamlet in order to change the mindset of its residents. During his interaction with the residents, the Police Commissioner asked them to desist in indulging in unlawful activities, thus, bringing a bad name to the hamlet.

Majority of the youth in the habitation were auto drivers causing trouble in the hamlet often because of their unruly attitude. The police would also help the youth to look for alternate vocations in the long run, he added. Sudheer Babu said six of nine accused, B Swaroopa, M Hemla, M Badri, M Sailu, M Mahesh and M Bujji were arrested and sent to judicial remand while B Kamalamma, B Vijay and M Sali were absconding. After verifying the past records, rowdy sheets on the accused involved in the case would be opened, he said.
