Warangal: The officials and personnel of district Excise department have won accolades from the Director of Enforcement (Excise), Akun Sabharwal, for their efforts in eradicating the menace of illicit liquor here.

At a special programme at the Directorate of Enforcement in Hyderabad on Thursday, Sabharwal felicitated and presented certificate of appreciation and a memento to Mahabubabad Excise Task Force CI MPR Chandrashekar, CI (enforcement) Y Sambaiah, Cherial Excise CI TVA Naidu and constable V Narsinga Rao.

The Director has asked the officials and personnel to continue their efforts to prevent brewing of illicit liquor (gudumba) and jaggery being used to brew it. Warangal district is in second place in the State in controlling gudumba and efforts should be made to reach the first place, he said.

He also lauded the support extended by District Collector V Karuna in controlling gudumba. Speaking to The Hans India, the Task Force CI, Chandrashekar, informed that the department has intensified its inspections and raids across the district in view of ensuing Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Jatara.

Serious efforts would be taken to make the Jatara 100 percent free from gudumba. Recently the excise officials seized 160 quintal of jaggery at Parkal town and a huge quantity gudumba was destroyed at Medaram village, he added.
