Chinnamulkanoor (Karimnagar): The people of Chinnamulkanoor are still in the dark about the development activities taking place in the village. However, they know more about the sops announced by the State government as the village was adopted by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in July last year.

K Chandrashekar Rao visited the village three times till now and interacted with the locals and urged them to develop the village together by setting aside their political differences. Around 280 people were also taken to Ankapur, Yerravelli and Pragathi Resorts in Hyderabad to study the methods practiced by the local people but the study tour did not yield much result.

Despite all these measures, people still remain ignorant about the basic concept of comprehensive development. For instance, some of the people staged a road blockade in the village a few weeks ago demanding the State government to sanction double bedroom houses, thus, exposing their disunity.

After the Chief Minister announced his decision to adopt Chinnamulkanoor village in Chigurumamdi mandal on July 4 last year, the district administration conducted a widespread survey on various aspects such as houses, drainages, agriculture, electricity, and other issues to commence development works.

During the first phase, 247 double bedroom houses were sanctioned and 214 were yet to be sanctioned. Though Chandrashekar Rao had assured the people that double bedroom houses would be constructed to all the needy people, they staged a dharna. Political differences are also creating hurdles.

A villager on condition of the anonymity said that the Congress sarpanch Makutam Rajaiah has failed to unite the villagers especially on the issue of development. Moreover, he would not like to work with TRS activists, he added. On the other hand, both former MPs Ponnam Prabhakar and CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy recently toured in the village and found fault with the State government for the delay in taking up development works even after eight months of the Chief Minister announcing his decision.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Monday, the first deputy sarpanch of the village, Gunda Venkata Mallaiah said that a complete development might not be possible since there was no unity among the people who were divided on political and caste lines. He emphasised the need for the villagers to strive for development unitedly.

Sarpanch M Rajaiah said that the people were eagerly waiting for the government benefits instead of overall development. With a view of getting double bedroom houses, people were demolishing their permanent houses. Out of the 280 members who went on an enlightenment tour, only 30 to 40 were persons with some awareness, he added.

Though the officials had decided to form separate committees for water, agriculture, development, sanitation, seed, electricity, drip irrigation, education, health and others, so far, only the village development committee (VDC) was formed. The VDC headed by Karimnagar RDO Chandrasekhar has decided to meet every Wednesday to review the progress of the committee but it failed to sit during the last two weeks.
