Attention diversion gang held

Hyderabad: The Amberpet police have arrested a three-member gang that has been committing thefts by diverting the people’s attention and recovered 15 stolen sarees, Rs 70,000 cash and two scooters from them. Malakpet ACP Ch Sudhakar in a media release on Sunday revealed the details.

According to the release, S Karunakar Reddy, a textile businessman from Amberpet lodged a complaint with the Amberpet police on February 9, stating that, a day before, two unknown persons came into his shop and stolen seven sarees by diverting his attention. When he checked out, the sarees were missing from the stand.

The police analysed the CCtv footage and based on it they could arrest the gang members, while they were moving on scooters at Sriramana theatre in Amberpet on Sunday. The accused were identified as Ch Elia (50), resident of Kapra and native of Chirala, Bogri Chinnamma (48) of Kapra and native of Bapatla, and Madiki Yesu Babu alias Kiravani (40), an auto driver from Amberpet.

Accused Elia and Chinnamma were arrested by the Medchal police in 2012, Chinnamma was arrested twice by the city police in 2012 and Yesu Babu was arrested by the Punjagutta police in 2003, all of them were in attention diversion and theft cases. They are also wanted by the Chikkadpally, OU and Amberpet police in three different cases. They will be produced in the Court on Monday along with the seized property, said ACP Sudhakar.
