A total of 56 nominations were rejected of the total 1,350 nominations filed for Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) elections. After the scrutiny of the nominations that continued till late evening hours on Thursday, a total of 1,294 nominations filed by 811 candidates for 58 municipal divisions were accepted. 

Warangal: A total of 56 nominations were rejected of the total 1,350 nominations filed for Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) elections. After the scrutiny of the nominations that continued till late evening hours on Thursday, a total of 1,294 nominations filed by 811 candidates for 58 municipal divisions were accepted.

The party-wise break up of number of nominations filed is as follows: TRS-549, BJP-140, Congress-170, TDP-88, CPM-13, CPI-18, YSRCP-15, BSP-1, MIM-3, independents-189 and others-94. The withdrawal of nominations is scheduled to take place on Friday. Among the rejected candidates many were close associates of the MLAs falling under the GWMC limits.

However, the officials have not disclosed the complete details of the rejected list of candidate and the total number of candidates who filed their nominations. Meanwhile, the protests by aspirants who wanted TRS tickets and failed to get the ticket continued on Thursday. A large number of followers of K Prabhakar of 41 division staged rasta-roko near Hanamkonda chowrastha protesting denial of ticket to their leader.

Prabhakar was said to have won as the councillor from the municipal ward and was associated with the TRS for long. The party high command coming under pressure from Deputy CM Mahamood Ali has given to a leader called Sirajuddin replacing Prabhakar, the protestors alleged.
