Nizamabad: The Union Railway ministry has given nod for the Bodhan-Bidar railway line in Nizamabad district that had been pending for the past 100 years. The Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday sanctioned new railway line in Nizamabad district and sanctioned Rs 70 crore for Peddapally-Nizamabad railway line.

Prabhu sanctioned permission to the 138-km railway line which has proposed by the then Nizam. Hyderabad Nizam wanted to lay Bodhan-Bidar railway line to improve transportation between Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka states. The Nizam, in fact, had also prepared plan for this line before a century and wanted to conduct a survey in 1938 itself, but due to various reasons the project was put off.

According to Manohar Reddy, Zonal Railway Consultative Committee Member, the Union government released funds to conduct survey for Bodhan-Bidar line in the previous budgets and survey was completed in September, 2014. He said Bodhan-Bidar line requires Rs 1029.14 crores and but the ministry wants to change the alignment at Malegaon to Khanapur ‘Y’ Junction.

He was hopeful that the government would release funds for this line in supplementary budget. Union government also released Rs 70 crore to Peddapally-Nizamabad railway line to complete works between Armoor and Nizamabad section. Though nearly Rs 140 crores would be needed for the project, the government has released Rs 70 crores only.
