Hyderabad: After the Telangana government launching Chief Minister’s Overseas Minorities Scholarship Scheme, the TSMFC (TS Minority Finance Corporation), which is engaged in training and employment of youth, has decided to conduct coaching classes for overseas aspirants in courses like GRE, TOEFL and IELTS at Haj House building.

The State-level committee for the overseas scheme has already cleared 210 applications for scholarship admissions during spring out of the total 540 received. Another 26 students would be benefitted from the scheme by the end of this month. For fall (Jan-Feb), it has received 472 applications, whose verification process is underway.

The government has released Rs 12.5 crore, providing each of the applicants with Rs 5 lakh for the first semester. “The scheme includes Rs 10 lakh and one way fare amounting to Rs 60,000. For fall, the government will be releasing the remaining Rs 12.5 crore, fulfilling the allocated Rs 25 crore for the purpose,” said Subhash Chandra Goud, Deputy Director, the Telangana State Minorities Welfare Department. With some of the top floors of the Haj House building remaining unutilised throughout the year, except during the Haj season, TSMFC has come up with the idea of training overseas aspirants on the lines of TS Minority Study Circle.

The study circle being run at Abids in Hyderabad has drawn good response from the aspirants of Group-I and II, whose batches are completely taken care of by the Minority Welfare department. According to officials, classes would be started by the end of this month. Currently, modalities on coaching are being chalked out. Permission has been sought from Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao as it is being started on an experimental basis.

Initially, TSMFC would be pumping in Rs 5 lakh. The strength during the first financial year would be around 200 students.

“We have sought the permission of the government and paper work will be over within a couple of days,” said B Shafiuallah, MD, TS Minority Finance Corporation and also in-charge of TS Minority Study Circle.
