‘He knows the terrain and has good command over local political equations and it might be the reason why is made charge of the affairs in GWMC polls,’ commented a senior leader, who does not want to be quoted.

Warangal: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, who missed much of the action in recently concluded GHMC elections, is taking centre stage in Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) electioneering.

He is shouldering the responsibility of coordinating with the local MLAs, who are part of the nine-member committee formed by the party for candidate selection, tickets distribution and for running the campaign.

In the wake of huge competition and confusion that prevailed during tickets distribution, Harish Rao has become key moderator. The party high command deployed him to sort out pandemonium that prevailed until the withdrawal of nominations in view of the fact that as many as 549 candidates filed nominations on behalf of the TRS for 58 wards.

Known as ‘trouble shooter’ among the party circles, the Minister succeeded in bringing order to a great extent in the party cadre and MLAs under the GWMC, who reportedly sulked at the manner the tickets distributed.

But this happens much against the expectations of the party leaders here that Municipal Administration Minister T Taraka Rama Rao would be made in-charge of the campaign in the district as he did in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections.

The deployment of Harish Rao has raised eyebrows among the party circles and in other parties as well. It might be recalled that the party chief K Chandrashekar Rao’s decision to elevate his son KTR as the head of the party’s campaign in the GHMC polls has also surprised many at the State capital.

The reversal of the tactic, according to the party sources, is because of the key role Harish Rao played in every election the TRS fought in the district during the statehood movement and afterwards. It is also seen as a measure by the CM to check the gossips that Harish Rao is being marginalised in the party in recent times.

‘He knows the terrain and has good command over local political equations and it might be the reason why is made charge of the affairs in GWMC polls,’ commented a senior leader, who does not want to be quoted.

The party sources informed The Hans India that Minister K Taraka Rama Rao might join the campaigning in a couple of days. But, as of now, there is no schedule on CM Chandrashekar Rao’s campaigning for the GWMC elections, sources added.
