Hyderabad: In order to curb the menace of bike racing on Necklace Road, which has become an annoyance for joggers and cyclists, the central zone police on Sunday conducted an enforcement drive and detained about 150 persons including 51 minors on the charges of indulging in road races.

About 154 policemen led by the Central Zone DCP VB Kamalasan Reddy including Saifabad ACP J Surender Reddy, three inspectors, 10 SIs and 139 other staff installed check posts on Necklace Road. During the drive, the police detained 102 bikes in which 51 were driven by minor boys.

DCP Kamalasan Reddy said, “Among the detained bikes, 20 are sports bikes, 31 bikes are without valid documents and 51 bikes were driven by minors. All are detained and cases have been booked against everyone under section 180, section 181 and section 184 MV Act.”

He said the parents of the minors were called to the Lake police station, counselled and warned not to give bikes to their underage children. “Details of the violators have been collected and stored. If any person is found violating the rules repeatedly, they will be prosecuted,” the DCP said.

He said the bike racing has become a menace for the walkers, joggers and tourists who are visiting Necklace Road, Tank Bund and NTR Marg areas. The police are making strenuous efforts to transform these areas as tourist spots and these troublesome activities would not be entertained, the DCP said adding that special drives would continue in order to keep check to the errant motorists.
