New Delhi: The issue of Rohith Vemula along with the JNU imbroglio continued to rock the Capital here on Wednesday. Rohith Vemula, whose death has led to a national debate continued to be the central theme of protests that shook the Capital on Wednesday too. A massive demonstration of the Youth Congress and students affiliated to the Left parties attracted a large number of students from both the Delhi University and JNU.

Irani action led to Rohith suspension
Speakers addressing the gathering at Jantar Mantar sought to know whether the Union Minister Smriti Irani, who not only ordered action against Rohith that led to his suspension and subsequent suicide, but also cooked up unfair stories regarding his caste and post-mortem, should go unpunished.

Equally strong and vocal were the demands for release of Kanhaiah Kumar and other student leaders of JNU who were arrested on the charge sedition. Inside Parliament, Rahul Gandhi too spoke on the Rohith issue to “nail Irani's lies.” Earlier, Prof Saugata Roy of TMC too raised the issue despite the repeated reminders of the Speaker against talking on the contents of his privilege notice.

He went on to quote Smriti Irani's defence in Parliament regarding Rohith's suicide to say that she had tried to mislead the House in claiming that no medical care was provided to Rohith Vemula soon after he was found hanging. He also pointed out how the Chief Medical Officer of the university had refuted the claims of the Union Minister.
