Hyderabad: In a bid to create an 'e-Assembly', Telangana State Assembly would virtually go 'paperless' from the budget session, which starts on Thursday. The process of conducting proceedings online has been initiated during this budget session. The digitisation process would be adopted in a phased manner.

In this process, members of all political parties have been requested to submit their questions that would be raised during the Question Hour, online and the same would be forwarded to the peshi of the respective Ministers. A special log-in facility providing secure access to the assembly's interface would be provided to all legislators.

They would raise queries and the responses as well as the annexures can be accessed in a scheduled time. The MLAs can use their laptops or other electronic devices like tablets to read the replies to their questions. “Instead of going through the bundles of paper sheaf, legislators would directly see their questions and answers on online,” said an official.

Members have also been asked to file their complaints and personal grievances online as part of drive to minimise the use of paper. It is expected that over 500 questions would be raised during the budget session and efforts are underway to make 70 per cent of the questions paperless.

Officials said that during the next step, reports submitted by government and Ministers would be made available online instantly after tabling them in the house for the convenience of members. The data would also be made available to general public too.

Similarly, to reduce expenditure incurred on paper material, information given to journalists in writing during the session would also be made available online. “However, it would take some time,” officials said.
