Telangana Govt agrees to continue half day schools
Yielding to the demands by the government teachers’ associations, Telangana government on Friday has decided to continue half-day schools from 8 am to 12.30 pm. A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting convened by Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari with the representatives of the Government Teachers’ Associations at the Secretariat here on Friday.
Hyderabad: Yielding to the demands by the government teachers’ associations, Telangana government on Friday has decided to continue half-day schools from 8 am to 12.30 pm. A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting convened by Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari with the representatives of the Government Teachers’ Associations at the Secretariat here on Friday.
“Though the academic year begins from March 21, students will be taught reading, writing and arithmetic skills, but syllabus of the class will not commence. A final decision to start syllabus of the next academic year from March 21 will be taken by Chief Minister,” said P Sarotham Reddy, President of the Progressive Recognised Teachers’ Union (PRTU) Although majority of teachers unions have agreed to academic calendar on the lines of Central Board of Secondary Education and to do away with the half-day schools while drafting academic calendar due to harsh weather conditions prevailing, the teachers demanded that government o roll back full-day schools system.
The Education Minister assured the teacher associations that government would formulate long pending unified service rules in 10 days and send them to the Central Government for a nod. The Minister told the teachers unions that inter-district transfers would be carried out after having a discussion with the Chief Minister.
“If need be, government will take teacher associations to the Centre to get a nod for having unified service rules,” the Minister told teacher unions. With an assurance from the Minister, the Telangana Teachers Joint Action Committee has withdrawn a call given to boycott SSC examination duties.
Further, during the meeting, the Minister agreed to upgrade pandit and physical education trainers and also to implement 10th Pay Revision Commission (PRC) for the teachers working in Model Schools across the state. The Minister also agreed to pay salaries for aided school teachers on the first of every month.
State Teachers’ Union President Ch Raj Reddy said as per assurance from the Minister Contributory Pension Scheme would be abolished for 2003 DSC teachers and old pension would be implemented. “Arrears of 10th PRC, health cards and among other issues will be resolved after discussing with the Chief Minister,” said Raj Reddy.
