Government to set up finance body for Brahmins
Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy informed members in the Legislative Council that government was considering a proposal to establish a separate finance corporation for the Brahmin community in the state. In his reply during Question Hour, he said the government had taken up the issues of archakaas seriously and had constituted a three-member committee to resolve the issues.

"On June 6, 2015, a committee was formed with the intention of resolving the problems. The committee submitted its report on February 4, 2016, which is under examination," he said. Reddy said that the government could not provide salaries to archakas and other temple employees as they were directly appointed by temple committees and could not be considered as government employees.
The Minister explained that earlier the provision of Common Good Fund (CGF) was providing support to them. The government’s priority was to focus on development of temples including Vemulawada, Bhadrachalam and Basara, apart from Yadagirigutta, he said and added that more funds would be allocated for the development of these temples in the 2016-17 budget.
The questions were raised by BJP MLC N Ramachandra Rao, TRS MLCs P Satish Kumar, Ramulu Naik and Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, who expressed concern about the issues being faced by archakaas. They pointed out that the priests were not even able to get Rs 6000 honorarium announced by the government. Ali suggested to government to find out alternative sources of income by constructing stalls and renting out temple lands for commercial purposes.
