Adilabad: Telangana State took a major step forward on Sunday with the synchronisation of one of the 2X600-MW power generation units at the coal-fired Singareni Thermal Power Plant (STPP) at Pegadapalli under Jaipur mandal in Adilabad district.

The Rs 7,573-crore STPP works that have begun in 2011 have now finally reached a milestone with the successful synchronisation of one of the two power generation units. The synchronisation process began at around 11 am after the puja by the Singareni Company Collieries Limited (SCCL) chairman and managing director N Sridhar.

Synchronisation is the process of initial connecting the power generation unit to the power grid. The synchronization, beginning with 50-MW power generation gained momentum to reach 600-MW by 3 pm and the power produced during the process was synchronized to Gazwel Grid.

Speaking on this occasion, Sridhar said, “The synchronization process in the second unit will be conducted before the end of April. Both the units are expected to be ready for the commercial operations by the first week of May. This will bring the power deficit in the state.”
“Barring the railway line, the reservoir, pipeline from Pranahita river, and expansion and strengthening works of the existing road en route to the power plant for the transportation of coal have been completed,” J Nagaiah, SCCL General Manager (CDN) and Chief Public Relations Officer, told The Hans India.

As part of its business diversification strategy, the SCCL has mooted this power project, financed by the Power Finance Corporation (PFC), in 2010. Although the SCCL got required forest, environmental and other clearances, the project works progressed at a snail’s pace until the State bifurcation. With the newly-formed State government showed interest, the works have entered a brisk pace.

On the other hand, the works of the Rs 3,570-crore third power unit 1X600-MW that started on March 3, 2015, is expected to be completed in 34 months. The third unit consultancy was given to NTPC, while the works of Boiler, Turbine and Generator (BTG), and Balance of Point (BoP) were assigned to the BHEL.
