election observer K Ilambarthi and Municipal Commissioner G Venugopal Reddy were present. Earlier in the day, Dharavath Rammurthy Naik, 1st Division Corporator, created commotion when he learnt that high command had zeroed in on the candidature of Dr Papalal for the Mayor post by resorting to road blockade on the By-pass road.

He was taken into custody by the police and was let off after the election to Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts concluded. Later, Rammurthy speaking to The Hans India, said: “I was obviously disappointed for not being selected for the Mayor post.”
