Laknavaram(Warangal): The newly-built exquisite wooden cottages amid the serene waters of spellbinding Laknavaram lake are languishing without being thrown open to nature lovers’ occupancy. The buzzword is that inauguration of the cottages is put on hold till next month due to non-availability of India’s ace tennis player and Telangana Brand Bmbassador Sania Mirza.

Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal are expected to inaugurate cottages in April

In a bid to enhance the beauty of the lake and its surroundings thereby to attract the tourists, the authorities took up construction of two new cottages in addition to the renovation of two old ones that were rusticated long ago. State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) Managing Director Christina Z Chongthu, who visited the lake last year, instructed the officials to renovate the old ones besides constructing two new cottages.

Apart from this, the TSTDC also has plans to develop the existing children’s park in the Kakarakayalabodu. According to sources, the newly-built cottages on an island in the lake are luxurious and are equipped with solar power facility. It may be noted that the lake has been witnessing a rise in tourist footfall ever since the authorities installed a suspension bridge.

In all, about 40,000 to 50,000 tourists from all over Telangana, AP, Chhattisgarh and other States visit this picturesque lake every month. As of now, the lake has a restaurant and seven guest rooms. Speaking to The Hans India, Chairman of Telanana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) Pervaram Ramulu said,“The construction of two cottages is completed and two more are under construction.

We have plans to bring Sania Mirza and World number 2 Indian badminton ace Saina Nehwal to inaugurate the cottages in April.” However, with water level in the lake is fast-depleting, it appears that inauguration of the cottages is a far cry this year. Even if the authorities manage to inaugurate the cottages next month, the water level in the lake is expected deplete further by that time, making it difficult for the boat cruise, which is the only way to reach the facility.

It’s learnt that occupancy rate of cottages is expected to range anywhere between Rs 5,000 and Rs 6,000 a day. The tourists who stay in the island can enjoy free boat rides from Kakarakayalabodu, the regular tourist spot of the lake.
