Birkur (Nizamabad): Illegal sand mining activities were going on unabated for the last 15 days on the banks of Bhaajan lake (bhaajan cheruvu) in the Birkur mandal.
The locals alleged that no action was taken by the revenue or police officials to prevent the sand mining though it was brought to their notice. When contacted, the revenue officials said that permission was not given to anyone to carry out sand quarrying activities.
