Dy Speaker averts Roja type crisis in Telangana Assembly
Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy on Monday prevented the Telangana Assembly from falling in to a “political cauldron” which is experienced in Andhra Pradesh Assembly following the suspension of YSR Congress MLA R K Roja from the Assembly for one year during the ongoing budget session.

In a generous gesture with “tears rolling from her eyes”, the Deputy Speaker on Tuesday resisted the state government from moving a motion to suspend woman Congress member D K Aruna from the Assembly for her alleged comments that Padma has no ‘manners’ in running the House.
The issue was raked up by Legislative Affairs minister T Harish Rao soon after the opposition Congress MLAs returned to the House after staging a walkout for denying more time to their party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to speak during the debate on demands for grants.
The minister took strong exception to Aruna’s alleged comments and demanded an unconditional apology or face suspension from the House. “Members who have manners would not make such comments against the Chair. Since the leader's 'objectionable’ comment was already recorded, she deserved punishment,” he said. Aruna made the remark when the Chair stopped Bhatti from continuing his speech as the time allotted to him was over.
On the insistence of the minister, Opposition leader K Jana Reddy said his party leader did not make any comment against the Chair and turned down the demand from treasury benches that the CLP leader instruct the woman member to tender apology.
Following government whip G Sunitha’s demand for suspension of the Congress member D K Aruna, the Legislative Affairs Minister immediately moved a motion of suspension. Aruna said that she did not ‘disrespect’ Padma as claimed by the ruling party members. Harish Rao brewed allegations only to tarnish her image, Aruna said.
In a quick response, Padma said she was leaving the matter to the conscience of the Congress leader and stopped the government from moving further on the suspension issue by saying that she did not want to drag the issue in the interest of the Assembly.
