Justice PV Sanjay Kumar of High Court at Hyderabad on Wednesday directed the government of Telangana to furnish the court deadline when the website featuring “Government Orders” (GOs) would be restored and asked it to place all details before the court. He posted the matter to Monday. The court gave the direction on a petition filed by Dasoju Sravan Kumar, official spokesperson of the TPCC.

The petitioner, represented by R Raghunandan Rao, urged the court for restoration of the website. The government shut the website without any valid reasons denying opportunity to people to know what is happening in the government. He contended that it amounted to giving transparency a burial. He said closing down the website is violation of Article 19 (1) of the Indian Constitution and against the spirit of the Right to Information Act.

Responding on the petition, counsel for the IT department Nazeeb Khan informed the court that the website was not closed down but it would remain inaccessible to people for some time. To regularise operation of the website, guidelines were issued to secretaries of all government departments. Hence it would take some more time to restore the website. The judge asked the counsel to furnish him the date when it would be restored and posted the matter for Monday.
