Lack of faculty, class rooms, lab plague college
KU College of Engineering is plagued by plethora of problems rendering the students hapless and perplexed over their future. Though the university was established in the year 1976 the engineering college was established after a long time in 2009. After the college was established the then state government allocated Rs 35 crores towards infrastructure but only Rs 5 crores were released.

After the college was established the then state government allocated Rs 35 crores towards infrastructure but only Rs 5 crores were released.
As the university authorities failed to pursue the government for the release of remaining funds they got lapsed leading to serious lacking of infrastructure in terms of classrooms, laboratories, equipment and others. As the students lacked proper laboratories they are being forced to visit private colleges to take practical classes. According to the college authorities they need a total of 24 labs for different engineering department but currently there are only half a dozen labs available with scanty equipment.
The college needs 44 classrooms but there are only 10 classes available. The same is the case with faculty positions. There are in all 1450 students studying courses like ECE, EEE, mechanical, civil, computer science and IT in the college and they need 105 regular faculty. Nevertheless, there are only 31 teachers majority of them are part-time lecturers and there are no regular head of the departments in any wing.
In 2010 the government sanctioned 37 teaching and 35 non-teaching staff but their recruitment has not taken place so far. The college needs at least 85 professor ranked teachers but the one and only professor available in the college is its principal T Srinivasulu which indicates the plight of the college. “We have submitted representations three times to Dy.CM K Srihari and sent postcards to CM K Chandrashekar Rao explaining our troubles, however there is no improvement at all” lamented a student called Kiran Kumar.
‘This happens in a district represented by education minister Srihari and TSCHE chairman Prof. T Papi Reddy. If this is the situation of a university engineering college how the district could become an education hub as claimed by the Dy.CM and CM is a million dollar question’ remarked the PDSU KU in-charge Ch Veeranna. A few days ago the college students launched relay hunger strike demanding faculty and labs.
On March 19 the in-charge VC T Chiranjeevulu held talks with the students and formed a committee of students and faculty to look into the issue. “All the issues are taken to notice of the VC and the government. The students asked to wait for fifteen days to resolve the problems” pointed out the college principal Prof. Srinivasulu. “We will resume our agitation if the authorities and government failed to address the issues within the given time” cautioned a student leader called Madhukar.
