Crime against women: Parivartana, Project Pratigya launched
Keeping in mind the increasing number of violence against women and the alleged inattentiveness of the police officials in responding quickly, the police have initiated two programmes Parivartana and Project Pratigya. These programmes meant to prevent crime against women.

The district police, of late, were being criticised for their failure in controlling the violence against women, especially molestation. The police officials themselves admitted that the gang rape of a dalit girl might have been prevented if the local police responded immediately after receiving an alert call from a friend of the victim.
The police, besides creating awareness among girls, boys and the parents under Project Pratigya, were focusing more on changing the attitude of the police officers through Parivartana. For the purpose, a counselling session was also conducted for Station House Officers, Sub-Inspectors and writers of various police stations.
A noted psychiatrist, Dr BV Pattabhiram educated the police personnel on various issues during a counselling programme held at a private hotel here on Thursday. Constables and home guards would also be given counselling. Police bosses are planning to organise stress management and counselling programmes to cops once in a month.
Under project Pratigya, cops released two pamphlets along with advisories to both boys and girls. While girls were asked to be alert while moving with their boyfriends, boys were warned of stringent action if they were involved in crime against women. Releasing the pamphlets to the media here on Thursday, District Superintendent of Police D Joel Davis informed that they have already started educating students by organising awareness programmes in educational institutions.
Besides reorganising SHE teams, closed circuit television cameras would also be installed at important places, he said. Asking the media to give wide publicity for the advisories mentioned in the pamphlets, the SP informed that SIs would distribute handouts in all educational institutions in the mandal headquarters.
