In a rare occurrence, three families gave consent for donation of 17 organs of patients who were declared brain dead at different hospitals in the city on March 23. Two persons, M Narasaiah (55), an employee of Singareni Collieries and Korra Shankar (44), a government employee and resident of Sangareddy met with accident in separate incidents. 

Hyderabad: In a rare occurrence, three families gave consent for donation of 17 organs of patients who were declared brain dead at different hospitals in the city on March 23. Two persons, M Narasaiah (55), an employee of Singareni Collieries and Korra Shankar (44), a government employee and resident of Sangareddy met with accident in separate incidents.

They were rushed to hospitals where they were declared brain dead. After counseling by the hospital staff, the respective family members gave approval to donate their organs. In another accident, B Yashoda (20), a college student and resident of Pargi met with an accident while travelling on a two-wheeler with her brother.

Soon after she was declared brain dead, her father, brother and mother were counseled who agreed for organ donation. Authorities at Jeevandan said that it was for the first time that there were three donations on a single day.
