Hyderabad: Government on Tuesday unanimously passed the amended Telangana (Agricultural Produce and Livestock) Markets Act, 1966 paving way for implementing 33 per cent reservations to SC, ST, BC and women in the Market Committees in the State. Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao introduced the bill seeking to provide reservations to schedule caste, schedule tribes and BCs in the Agricultural Market Committees in the State.

Supporting the bill, Congress Deputy Floor Leader G Chinna Reddy suggested that the government give reservations to women in the Committees. Reacting to this, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said it was a good suggestion and would be incorporated in the bill and 33 per cent reservation would be followed in the Market Committees.

The Chief Minister also agreed to consider another suggestion of Chinna Reddy that the State government conduct elections to the Committees on the line of polls to the Committees in Gujarat State. Harish Rao said the programmes taken up by the TRS government were getting wide appreciation in the country. He said the Mission Kakatiya was lauded by Union Minister Uma Bharati, who wanted other states to follow.
