Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister (MAUD) K Taraka Rama Rao on Friday appealed to Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) officials to not take leave for two months this summer.

He also asked Water Board officials to rise to the occasion by maintaining proper water supply to citizens. The MAUD Minister observed that the coming two months of summer were going to be critical for water supply as traditional drinking water sources dried up.

He exhorted the Water Board engineers to rise to the occasion and deliver the goods by maintaining proper water supply to the citizens of Hyderabad. He further added that no one should take leave during these two months.Minister K T Rama Rao also participated in Musi River beautification and rejuvenation PowerPoint presentation, which was given by four private agencies in the Water Board head office building in Khairatabad.

Water Board managing director B Janardhan Reddy informed KTR about the progress on the 100-day action plan. He said that the board was planning to complete at least 1,000 rain water harvesting pits, clear 5,000 pending water supply connections, laying of trunk sewer main of Kukatpally nala to Hussainsagar and would improve 20,000 water supply
connections in Serilingampally.

Inaugurating an e-office of HMWS&SB, KTR said that the Water Board should aim for self-sufficiency in funds by improving internal efficiency, duly disconnecting illegal connections, collecting arrears from big defaulters and conversion of domestic to commercial within the next three months.
