SHE Teams nab 264 eve teasers in 3 months
With the 60-odd SHE Teams conducting decoy operations in Cyberabad Police Commissionerate to protect women from eve teasers, 264 offenders, including 15 minors and 233 majors, have been landed in police dragnet during the last three months, according to the official sources.
Hyderabad: With the 60-odd SHE Teams conducting decoy operations in Cyberabad Police Commissionerate to protect women from eve teasers, 264 offenders, including 15 minors and 233 majors, have been landed in police dragnet during the last three months, according to the official sources.
Of the 233 major offenders, 185 were aged between 18 and 30, 33 were aged between 30 and 40, 11 offenders were aged between 40 and 50 and four were over 50 years of age. Out of a total of 228 cases, 179 were of petty nature and 47 FIRs were registered.
According to a statement issued by the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, all the offenders were being counselled along with their parents by professional counsellors at Crime Against Women (CAW) Cell, CPO, Gachibowli. Of the total of 264 offenders, 50 were sent to remand. Most of the accused are around 20-years-old and are students. A few of them are around 35 years.
During the last two weeks, 40 cases have been reported in which 50 were booked. On Saturday, counselling was held for 41 offenders and nine of them are cooling their heels in jail.Most of the eve-teasers repented about their mischievous act and realised the necessity of respecting women after an hour of counselling session.
Parents appreciated the initiative taken by Cyberabad SHE Teams. “Half of the complaints were received through WhatsApp Citizen Connectivity Programme i.e. 9490617444, through a small message for which our teams are responding effectively and immediately,” the Cyberabad police said.
