Hyderabad: The Telangana Crime Investigation Department on Sunday issued an alert asking public to be aware of schemes promising huge-returns. After learning about the new modus operandi of cyber fraudsters, especially those cases of ‘honey trap’, the CID has issued the alert and asked the public not to respond to the calls or messages from unknown persons.

Several fraudsters are trying to lure innocent public with schemes promising huge returns, but they may be dubious. “Be careful before investing in such schemes”, the police said.“It may be apt to point out in this context that unscrupulous elements are adopting various fraudulent methods to cheat gullible people and make easy money. So, if someone sends you a message on the mobile or sends a pamphlet offering to pay double the amount you invest within a month or so, be cautious about the genuineness of such offers,” the police said.

On an average, about 10 cases are being registered by the Cyber Crime police in Hyderabad, in which innocent public are victimised of the fake schemes. The fraudsters call the victims, explain about fake offers and convince them to deposit huge amounts in the spurious bank accounts.“One should know that no one could afford to pay huge returns on their investments. Hence, it is not desirable to fall a prey to such lucrative offers in any manner,” they said.

Noticing that the number of persons falling prey to the old modus operandi have come down, the fraudsters have opted new modus operandi, to cheat the innocents.Several persons have been receiving messages from unknown numbers, in which the sender claims to be a woman asking receiver to call on the given number, the police said adding that the fraudsters might be trying to collect the data linked with the victim’s number, may it be bank account details or any others.

“Another type of cheating is done by sending a message saying ‘My heart beats for you. To know who I am, call me on the given phone number’. No one knows what sort of untoward things might happen if you respond to such messages and give your details,” the police said unable to find the notorious step of fraudsters.
