Twenty CPI activists, including party national executive member K Narayana had attempted to take on a 'Chalo Raj Bhavan' march in Hyderabad on Monday demanding the resignation of HCU Vice Chancellor Appa Rao. However, as the march was taken up without permission, all the CPI activists were taken into preventive custody at Khairatabad railway station near Raj Bhavan.

Following Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula's suicide, continuous protests have been taking place at the Hyderabad Central University (HCU). The Joint Action Committee of HCU are planning to intensify their protests by calling for a protest march - 'Chalo HCU' - on April 6 demanding the removal and arrest of Vice Chancellor.

VC Appa Rao resuming office on March 22 led to protests with student unions vandalising his office. President Pranab Mukherjee's immediate intervention has also been sought by the students' union to resolve issues in the University and also sack the Vice Chancellor.
