Release 100 cr to tackle drought: BJP
BJP MLA NVSS Prabhakar demanded the State government that it should immediately release Rs 100 crore to provide relief to farmers and the common man affected by the severe drought in Warangal district.
Dharmasagar/Warangal: BJP MLA NVSS Prabhakar demanded the State government that it should immediately release Rs 100 crore to provide relief to farmers and the common man affected by the severe drought in Warangal district. The MLA led a delegation of BJP leaders to examine and inspect the drought conditions and the measures being taken by the government in Dharmasagar mandal in the district on Tuesday.
The delegation interacted with the farmers and villagers in the mandal. During their interaction, several farmers complained to the visiting BJP leaders that they have not received input subsidy so far and there was shortage of power to pump water from the wells. During a short notice discussion in the State Assembly recently, Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Panchayat Raj Minister K Taraka Rama Rao claimed that the government has taken all the measures to address the drought conditions, the MLA said.
“There is a serious mismatch between what the government is claiming on drought relief measures and their implementation is at the ground level. We haven’t seen any relief works going on anywhere in the mandal to address drought,” he alleged.
The government was not doing enough to address the prevailing drought situation in the State. Crops like paddy, maize and other crops dried up due to inadequate power supply, besides lack of water, Prabhakar told the media at the BJP district headquarters later in the day in Hanamkonda.
Further, he alleged that the State government was trying to downplay the severity of drought and announced only 11 mandals as drought hit in Warangal district. The government should declare entire district as drought affected, he demanded. He wanted urgent measures to deal with severe shortage of drinking water in the villages.
The BJP MLA denied the allegation that the Centre was not extending support to the State government in tackling the drought conditions. The State government failed to submit detailed reports on drought even as the Centre was ready to release enough funds, he added. The Central government has already released Rs 56 crore, he added.
